We travelled with a company called Discover Egypt and we felt as safe as could be. We took the Nile cruise in the last week of June 2012 and I would suggest travelling at that time of year. It is very hot, but this does mean fewer tourists so you get better pictures of the temples. We also travelled to Cairo the day after the election and it was like a ghost town – wonderful. We were aware of unrest at this time, but only because the tour guide told us and saw no evidence ourselves.
