I’d also recommend going to meet the Pope during his Wednesday morning audiences. I have a church in Rome, Santa Maria sopra Minerva, which is one the most beautiful in the city and that’s also worth a visit. To go and sit a pavement café is also part of the city’s many pleasures. Rome is like a glass of fine wine - it should be sipped, not gulped! There are other great cities in Europe - London, Paris, Venice and Florence - but Rome is eternal. Emperors, popes and dictators die but Rome, like the Tiber, journeys on.
