Although he is best known for 'The Thick of it', he has a great track record of stage/TV/film credits, including winning a BAFTA and an Oscar (for a short film). We saw him a couple of years ago as Prof Marcus in 'The Ladykillers' on stage and he was brilliant - very funny and dark. I think that could be key as he is the right person to make the Doctor darker. Good luck Peter.
